5 star holiday safety bonanza for motorists

The Australasian New Car Assessment Program (ANCAP) today announced 5-star safety ratings for a suite of new cars:

  • BMW 1 Series
  • Citroen C4
  • Citroen DS3
  • Ford Falcon FG MkII sedan and ute
  • Ford Kuga
  • Holden Captiva Series 2
  • Kia Optima
  • Kia Rio
  • Mazda BT-50
  • Mercedes Benz M-Class
  • VW Jetta
  • VW Golf Cabriolet

ANCAP Chair, Lauchlan McIntosh, said it was encouraging to see manufacturers and importers steadily increasing the range of 5 star rated cars across all market segments.

"As Australasia’s leading vehicle safety advocate, ANCAP aims to provide as many ratings as possible to assist consumers in purchasing safer vehicles. This extensive range of latest ratings gives new car buyers in Australia and New Zealand more choices of 5-star safety across a range of vehicle categories and price points" Mr McIntosh said.

"These results are a testament to the commitment of vehicle manufacturers to safety. All consumers, including mums and dads as well as fleet buyers, should ensure that they purchase ANCAP 5 star rated cars.

"With the holiday period looming your choice of new car may well be a life-saver."

ANCAP is supported by all Australian and New Zealand motoring clubs, the Australian Government, the New Zealand Government, all Australian state governments, the Victorian Transport Accident Commission, NRMA Insurance and the FIA Foundation.
