Quick Fact: 81% of new cars sold hold a 5 star ANCAP safety rating

Since 1992, ANCAP has published safety ratings for over 1,000 vehicle makes, models and variants with 81% of new cars sold* now holding the maximum 5 star ANCAP safety rating.

With the mean age of the Australian vehicle fleet sitting at 10 years, there are many people driving older cars that are, by today’s standards, unsafe.

The rapid pace of vehicle development in coming years will bring a raft of new safety assist technologies into the new car market driving down road trauma at an unprecedented rate.
