Volkswagen's safety achievements continue with new Golf

Volkswagen has continued its consistent safety form with independent vehicle safety advocate, ANCAP, today awarding the new Golf the maximum 5 star ANCAP safety rating.

The new Golf VII offers a broad range of safety assist technologies (SAT) - positioning it ahead of current safety requirements.

"In addition to performing very well in each of the physical crash tests conducted on the Golf, this next generation model carries Golf forward with advanced safety technologies including radar-based adaptive cruise control (ACC), city emergency braking (or AEB), as well as a multi-collision braking system," said ANCAP Chairman, Mr Lauchlan McIntosh.

Multi-collision braking automatically applies the brakes after a crash to prevent the car rolling into further danger.

This 5 star ANCAP safety rating adds to the line of Golf models which have held this top level of safety since the Golf V released back in 2005. The Golf V was one of the first small cars to earn a 5 star ANCAP safety rating.

The 5 star ANCAP safety rating for the Golf VII applies to all petrol variants. The diesel variants are unrated.

Remarking on Volkswagen's consistent safety achievements Mr McIntosh said, "Almost all current Volkswagen passenger vehicles rated by ANCAP hold the maximum 5 star ANCAP safety rating. For commercial buyers, the Amarok also scores top marks."

ANCAP is supported by all Australian and New Zealand motoring clubs, the Australian Government, the New Zealand Government, Australian state and territory governments, the Victorian Transport Accident Commission, NRMA Insurance and the FIA Foundation.
