The tested model of Nissan X-Trail was introduced in Australia and New Zealand in 2014. This ANCAP safety rating applies to all variants built from February 2017, except 2.0 litre diesel variants which are unrated.

Dual frontal, side chest and side head airbags (curtains) are standard. An autonomous emergency braking (AEB) system which operates at city and interurban speeds is standard on models built from February 2017. Advanced seat belt reminders are fiited to the front and 2nd row seats. Third row seats, where fitted, do not have seat belt reminders or side curtains.
