Safe and green options widen as Mercedes-Benz EQE achieves five star safety.

ANCAP SAFETY, Australia and New Zealand’s independent voice on vehicle safety, has today awarded a five-star safety rating to the new Mercedes-Benz EQE.

The EQE is just the second battery electric model in the Large Car segment to be rated by ANCAP, and joins over 60 battery electric and alternative-powered models rated by ANCAP to date across the Australian and New Zealand market.

High scores were awarded to the EQE for the crash protection offered to vehicle occupants. Assessed against ANCAP's 2020-2022 protocols, the EQE achieved the second highest score for Adult Occupant Protection (95%) and equalled the second highest score for Child Occupant Protection (92%).

The Mercedes-Benz EQE is fitted with a full suite of airbags, including a driver knee airbag, centre airbag to reduce the risk of occupant injury when a vehicle is struck on the opposite side, and head and chest-protecting airbags in both seating rows.

Strong scores were also shown for the protection offered to vulnerable road users, and its collision avoidance capability. The EQE is fitted with car-car, car-to-pedestrian, and car-to-cyclist detecting autonomous emergency braking (AEB), with collisions avoided or mitigated in the majority of test scenarios. Full points were awarded for the EQE's ability to detect and react to a standing or walking pedestrian when reversing – known as AEB Backover.

The EQE is fitted with a lane support system, with Good performance shown in lane keep assist (LKA) tests. Adequate performance was recorded in the more critical emergency lane keeping (ELK) test scenarios.
