People Mover segment gets a boost with Toyota Granvia awarded 5 stars.

Australasia’s independent vehicle safety authority, ANCAP, has awarded the new Toyota Granvia people mover a 5 star ANCAP safety rating – the first model in the segment to achieve 5 stars to the latest, most stringent protocols. The Audi Q3 also achieved top marks.

Entering the Australian and New Zealand markets this month, Toyota’s new people mover – the Granvia – has carried through the impressive safety scores awarded to the Toyota HiAce van rated by ANCAP earlier this year.

“The Granvia provides a range of well-performing safety technologies and features,” said ANCAP Chief Technical Officer, Mark Terrell.

“As a model which will be used to transport families and groups, it is pleasing to see side head-protecting airbags extend to all four seating rows.”

“Child occupant protection has also been prioritised with ISOFix and top tether anchorages available for all second and third row seats, and close to full marks achieved in the frontal impact and side impact tests. It is however important to note that the fourth seating row is not suitable for the transport of young children as top tether anchorages are not fitted.”

“The introduction of the Granvia provides consumers and fleet operators with superior levels of safety in this segment,” he said.

In the Small SUV segment, the Audi Q3 scored well across all areas of assessment with full points recorded for its lane keep assist capability.

“Tests of its lane support functionality showed good performance in all test scenarios including more critical emergency lane keeping scenarios that require the vehicle to intervene to prevent both unintentional and intentional lane crossing or run-off-road situations,” Mr Terrell said.

A 5 star ANCAP safety rating applies to all Audi Q3 variants with the exception of the RS Q3 and Sportback variants which are unrated.

All Toyota Granvia variants are covered by a 5 star ANCAP safety rating.
