Octavia elevated to top safety rating

ANCAP today awarded Skoda’s new Octavia a 5 star safety rating. The Octavia joins the Roomster, the Superb and the Yeti to give Skoda a fourth 5 star safety rated car for its Australasian fleet.

ANCAP Chairman, Mr Lauchlan McIntosh, congratulated Skoda on the impressive range of safety assist technologies available on the medium sized Octavia. These include Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB), Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) and Fatigue Detection.

He noted, however, that not all of these are standard on the base variant, saying “the inclusion of active safety assist technologies which can help prevent or minimize the impact of a crash is vital if we are to further reduce the number of lives lost on our roads. Autonomous Emergency Braking, lane support systems and adaptive lighting are examples of the technologies consumers should be urging manufacturers to offer as standard in all new makes and models.”

The 5 star ANCAP safety rating applies to all front-wheel-drive variants of the Octavia.

ANCAP is supported by all Australian and New Zealand motoring clubs, the Australian Government, the New Zealand Government, Australian state and territory governments, the Victorian Transport Accident Commission, NRMA Insurance and the FIA Foundation.
