Rukus & Pajero get 4 star safety rating, Territory maintains 5 stars

Australia's leading independent vehicle safety advocate, the Australasian New Car Assessment Program (ANCAP) today released safety ratings for three vehicles on the Australian market.

ANCAP announced 4 star safety ratings for the Toyota Rukus and the Mitsubishi Pajero and an extension of the previous 5 star rating for the new Ford Territory SZ.

ANCAP Chair, Lauchlan McIntosh urged manufacturers and importers to provide the safest vehicles possible for new car buyers." ANCAP's 5 star rated models are now available in every market segment - buyers should do their homework and seek out 5 star vehicles to give their families and employees the best chance of avoiding the trauma of a serious crash,” Mr McIntosh said."ANCAP welcomes the updated Territory 5 star rating.

"The Rukus tests demonstrated some concerns about leg protection for the driver, which was assessed as marginal. "In the frontal offset crash test of the Pajero, leg protection for the driver was marginal and there were some concerns about deformation of the roof, driver's door and the footwell."

ANCAP is supported by all Australian and New Zealand motoring clubs, the Australian Government, the New Zealand Government, all Australian state governments, the Victorian Transport Accident Commission, NRMA Insurance and the FIA Foundation.
