Ford Puma arrives on local shores safety-equipped.

Australasia’s independent vehicle safety authority, ANCAP SAFETY, has today published a 5 star ANCAP safety rating for the Ford Puma upon its arrival to local shores.

Following its release into the European market and subsequent testing last year, locally-specified models of the Ford Puma (Small SUV) have scored well across each of the four key areas of assessment against 2019 criteria:

94% - Adult Occupant Protection

86% - Child Occupant Protection

77% - Vulnerable Road User Protection

74% - Safety Assist

In the frontal offset test, the passenger compartment remained stable and dummy readings indicated Good protection of the knees and femurs for the driver and front-seat passenger. Similar protection would also be provided to occupants of different sizes and to those sitting in different seating positions, however protection of the driver’s chest was rated as Marginal in this test.

“In both the side impact and oblique pole tests, protection of all critical body regions was Good and the Puma scored full points in both of these tests,” said ANCAP Director – Communications & Advocacy, Rhianne Robson.

“In terms of active safety, the Puma’s autonomous emergency braking system is able to detect pedestrians and cyclists as well as other vehicles, and in these tests the system’s overall performance was rated as Good with collisions avoided or mitigated in most scenarios.”

“Lane-keep assist functionality also scored well, with the Puma able to detect dashed and solid line markings as well as the road edge, and provide assistance to the driver to help avoid the vehicle straying from its intended lane or running-off-road,” Mrs Robson added.
