ANCAP has appointed lawyer and governance specialist Mark Standen as its new Chair, replacing Andrew (Andy) Cornish after eight years on the Board and four years as Chair.
Mark Standen’s background spans more than four decades in corporate law, including 32 years as a partner at MinterEllison. Mark is highly regarded for advisory work in major transactions involving financial institutions and for his expertise in directors’ duties, governance and risk management across private, public and not-for-profit sectors. He is also a Fellow of the Governance Institute of Australia and has lectured extensively in company law and governance.
Mark joined ANCAP’s Board and Finance, Audit, Risk and Remuneration Committee in 2020. Mark is taking on the role from Andy Cornish who departs after overseeing ANCAP’s strategic expansion into safety assessments for a broader range of vehicles.
“Mark brings exceptional depth in governance, risk and board leadership, and his appointment comes at a pivotal time as ANCAP prepares for its next protocol phase and continued program expansion,” outgoing Chair, Andy Cornish said.
Andy’s tenure saw ANCAP maintain the strength of its passenger car star ratings program, while delivering new assessment programs for commercial vans, large utes and light trucks. Under Andy’s leadership, ANCAP saw increased market coverage, stable member engagement, rising consumer awareness and sustained industry investment in safety.
Andy’s period as Chair was defined by a focus on board discipline, technical readiness and long-term positioning. Mark assumes the role as ANCAP moves toward its next protocol phase and continued expansion of its safety programs.
“We thank Andy Cornish for his outstanding service and leadership, which strengthened ANCAP’s governance, broadened our ratings coverage and positioned the organisation for long-term impact,” ANCAP Chief Executive Officer, Carla Hoorweg said.
“With Mark as Chair, ANCAP is well placed to continue driving meaningful safety outcomes for consumers while supporting industry innovation and accountability."
