CONSUMER ALERT - Extension: KGM Torres EVX affected by safety specification difference

• Sister vehicle to KGM Musso EV, the Torres EVX, supplied to customers without centre airbag
• Approximately 100 Torres EVX vehicles potentially affected – in Australia and New Zealand
• Petrol and hybrid variants of Torres unaffected, with centre airbag and knee airbag fitted as advertised
• Torres EVX customers advised that omission of the centre airbag may have an effect on occupant safety in side impact crashes

Further to the Consumer Alert issued on Friday 21 August 2026 advising of a safety specification difference affecting the KGM Musso EV dual cab ute sold in Australia, ANCAP has extended its consumer advice, confirming that sister vehicle – the KGM Torres EVX – has also been supplied to customers without a centre airbag.

Unlike the Musso EV issue, which affects Australian-supplied vehicles, the omission affecting the Torres EVX extends to both Australia and New Zealand.

Customers who have purchased or are considering purchasing the battery-electric KGM Torres EVX mid-size SUV are advised that vehicles supplied since its market introduction in March 2024 (NZ) and October 2025 (AUS) are not fitted with a centre airbag.

A centre airbag was marketed by KGM as being present on Torres EVX vehicles as part of a standard suite of “8 airbags”, with references featured in their consumer vehicle specification brochure and website. The KGM Torres EVX is, however, only fitted with seven airbags. The KGM Musso EV was advertised as having eight airbags with only six fitted.

A centre airbag – advertised by KGM as “front row far-side” or “front seat centre airbag” – is an occupant-protecting airbag generally positioned inboard within the driver’s seat back to reduce injury in side impact crashes.

Customers who have already purchased a Torres EVX are advised that the safety specification of their vehicle may differ to that advertised, and that the omission of the centre airbag may have an effect on occupant safety in side impact crashes.

KGM Australia has confirmed that their marketing materials have been updated to reflect actual specification of Torres EVX vehicles on sale locally. The Torres EVX is no longer on sale as new in the New Zealand market^.

Petrol and hybrid variants of the KGM Torres are not believed to be affected, with centre and knee airbags verified on locally-available vehicles.

ANCAP encourages KGM to deliver a production change that would see a centre airbag fitted.

Existing customers with concerns are advised to make contact with KGM or their local KGM dealer. Consumers considering purchasing a new or used KGM Torres EVX should be aware of the model’s actual safety specification.

^ NZ sales of KGM Torres EVX commenced March 2024 and ceased March 2025.

^^ To the end of July 2026, approximately 33 KGM Torres EVX vehicles had been sold in Australia (VFACTS) and 70 sold in New Zealand (NZ MIA).
