Five stars not a bar too high for Hyundai IONIQ 9

A five star ANCAP safety rating has today been confirmed for the new Hyundai IONIQ 9 large electric SUV, following comprehensive independent testing against the latest 2025 safety protocols.

The Hyundai IONIQ 9 is one of the few all-electric Large SUVs currently available to Australian consumers, offering families both size and innovative design without compromise on safety.

The IONIQ 9 achieved strong results across all four key assessment areas, with scores of 84% for Adult Occupant Protection, 86% for Child Occupant Protection, 77% for Vulnerable Road User Protection, and 85% for Safety Assist.

“The Hyundai IONIQ 9 demonstrates Hyundai’s ability to deliver top levels of safety performance in line with ANCAP’s most stringent test requirements,” said ANCAP Chief Executive Officer, Carla Hoorweg.

“Consumers and fleet buyers can be confident the IONIQ 9 provides high levels of protection for occupants, as well as other road users.”

Safety performance highlights include:

  • Stable passenger compartment in frontal offset test, and maximum points for protection of the driver in the full width and side impact tests
  • Maximum points for both child dummies in the frontal offset and side impact crash tests, with head-protecting airbags extending to the third row
  • Active “pop-up” bonnet, improving the level of pedestrian impact protection
  • High levels of performance across range of collision avoidance test scenarios – particularly detection and crash mitigation with cyclists and motorcyclists.

“This latest rating demonstrates that when Hyundai aims for five stars, they can achieve it,” said Ms Hoorweg.

“Regardless of price-point or purpose, it’s consumers who benefit most when vehicle safety is prioritised - and Hyundai have shown leadership and achieved this with their flagship EV.”
