Safety ratings are now available for recently introduced models – the Volkswagen Tayron, and MG’s first-ever dual cab ute, the MGU9. The Audi A6 e-tron has also earned a five-star safety rating following its launch in New Zealand.
The new Volkswagen Tayron has secured a five-star rating. High levels of occupant protection were demonstrated in the majority of crash tests, with full marks achieved for protection of the driver in the full width and side impact tests, and child passengers in the frontal offset and side impact tests.
Available in five and seven-seat configurations, the Tayron offers flexibility for families. In seven-seat variants, head-protecting airbags extend to the third row. Buyers should however note that top-tether child restraint anchorages are not available for third row seating positions of seven-seat variants, and the installation of child seats in these positions is therefore not recommended.
Arriving in New Zealand earlier this year, the Audi A6 e-tron has achieved a five-star ANCAP safety rating. The A6 e-tron impressed in the frontal offset test, earning maximum points for protection of the driver, front passenger, and child passengers. These high scores contributed to overall scores of 92% for Adult Occupant Protection and 91% for Child Occupant Protection.
Rounding out these results and marking MG’s first entry into the popular ute segment, the MGU9 has achieved five-star safety across all four pillars of ANCAP’s assessment. This rating closely follows the five-star rating awarded to its ‘twin’ model rated last month.
The MGU9 further cements the trend of five-star results in the competitive dual-cab ute segment. It is the seventh dual-cab ute to be assessed by ANCAP under current rating criteria, with each of these models achieving five-stars.
“These results further highlight the high levels of safety available to consumers across a variety of brands,” said ANCAP Chief Executive Officer, Carla Hoorweg.
