The Cupra Formentor was introduced in New Zealand in June 2021 and Australia in July 2022.
Updates were introduced for vehicles on sale from December 2025 in New Zealand, and April 2026 in Australia, and this ANCAP safety rating applies to all New Zealand variants built from July 2025, and Australian vehicles built from November 2025 (VIN VSSZZZKM1TXXXXXXX onwards), excluding the VZ5 and variants fitted with the Extreme Package.
A separate rating applies to Cupra Formentor vehicles built prior to July 2025 for New Zealand, and November 2025 for Australia.
The ANCAP safety rating for the Cupra Formentor is based on testing of the Cupra Formentor conducted in 2021 and 2025, and the closely-related Cupra Leon, conducted in 2025. ANCAP was provided with technical information and additional test data to show that these test results are also applicable to the updated Cupra Formentor.
Dual frontal airbags, first and second row side chest-protecting and side head-protecting airbags, and a driver knee airbag, are standard. A centre airbag which provides added protection to front seat occupants in side impact crashes is also standard.
Autonomous emergency braking (Car-to-Car, Vulnerable Road User, Junction & Crossing and Head-On), as well as a lane support system with lane keep assist (LKA), lane departure warning (LDW) and emergency lane keeping (ELK) and a speed assist system (SAS) are standard on all variants.
