The Cupra Leon was introduced in New Zealand in July 2021 and Australia from July 2022.
Updates were introduced for vehicles on sale from November 2025 in New Zealand, and January 2026 in Australia, and this ANCAP safety rating applies to all New Zealand variants built from July 2025 and Australian variants built from August 2025 (VIN VSSZZZKU1TXXXXXXX onwards), excluding VZx and VZe variants with Extreme Package. A separate rating applies to Cupra Leon vehicles built prior to July 2025 for New Zealand, and August 2025 for Australia.
The ANCAP safety rating for the Cupra Leon is based on testing of the Cupra Leon conducted in 2025, and closely-related SEAT Leon, conducted in 2020. ANCAP was provided with technical information and additional test data to show that the test results of the SEAT Leon are also applicable to the Cupra Leon.
Dual frontal, side chest-protecting and side head-protecting airbags and a driver knee airbag are standard. A centre airbag, which provides added protection to front seat occupants in side impact crashes, is also standard.
Autonomous emergency braking (Car-to-Car, Vulnerable Road User, Junction & Crossing and Head-On) as well as a lane support system with lane keep assist (LKA), lane departure warning (LDW) and emergency lane keeping (ELK), and a speed assistance system (SAS), are standard.
