The tested model of Kia Sorento was introduced in Australia in May 2015 and New Zealand in March 2015. This ANCAP safety rating applies to all New Zealand variants built from August 2017 and on sale from October 2017 when specification changes were introduced. Updated Australian variants are covered by a separate rating.

Dual frontal, side chest and side head-protecting airbags (curtains) are standard. From October 2017, autonomous emergency braking (AEB) and lane keep assist (LKA) systems are available on some higher-end variants and an active bonnet is standard.
