The Tesla Model Y L was introduced in Australia and New Zealand in March 2026.
This ANCAP safety rating for the six seat, three row Tesla Model Y L is based on testing of the closely-related five seat, two row Tesla Model Y. ANCAP was provided with technical information to show that the test results of the Tesla Model Y are also applicable to the Tesla Model Y L.
Separate safety ratings are available for five seat, two row Tesla Model Y variants.
Dual frontal, side chest-protecting and side head-protecting airbags are standard. A centre airbag, which provides added protection to front seat occupants in side impact crashes, is also standard.
Autonomous emergency braking (Car-to-Car, Vulnerable Road User, Junction and Backover), a lane support system with lane keep assist (LKA), lane departure warning (LDW) and emergency lane keeping (ELK), and an advanced speed assistance system (SAS) are standard.
A full list of safety features and technologies can be viewed within the Technical Report (see download link).
Difficulties were identified with child restraint installation in second row seating positions, where many restraints could not be correctly installed due to limitations with top tether routing.
In the third row, rearward-facing and forward-facing convertible child restraints could not be easily installed using the ISOFix anchorages.
As a result, care should be taken when selecting and installing child restraints in these positions.
