The Toyota HiAce was first introduced in Australia and New Zealand in May 2019. From June 2025 production, Toyota updated the safety specification of the HiAce. This Commercial Van Safety Grading applies to all updated van (two seat) and crew van (five seat) variants built from June 2025 and available for sale from August 2025. The HiAce Commuter bus and Minibus variants are not covered by this grading.
This assessment forms part of ANCAP’s Commercial Van Safety Comparison, which is separate to ANCAP’s traditional star rating program. Commercial Van gradings, such as this Platinum grading, focus specifically on the fitment and performance of active collision avoidance (ADAS) features.
All updated HiAce variants come standard with autonomous emergency braking (AEB), lane support, and advanced speed assistance systems. ANCAP testing of these systems showed high levels of performance – resulting in a Platinum grading.
The test results for this Commercial Van grading were obtained as part of the HiAce’s separate 2025 star rating assessment, conducted in an unladen condition. While braking performance may vary slightly under part load, this does not materially affect its Platinum grading performance.
